Greetings from Pine Island, Florida!
I recently moved here from the east coast of central Florida, and I'm looking forward to living here. I thought it might be a good idea to share my experiences of my first year on Pine Island, so I've started this blog for that purpose.
I'll try to keep up with this blog, and I hope to post as many photos as possible. Pine Island and Matlacha are wonderful communities with lots of friendly people. Of course, it's kind of nice when the part-timers (winter residents) migrate north for the summer and leave the place to the locals. Fewer cars on the road, fewer power boats on the water.... still, the winter people I've met have been tremendous, but I've only arrived in the past few weeks and I didn't get a chance to know many of them very well.
Everyone tells me the summers here are brutally hot and muggy. That's fine. I like hot weather, and the great thing is that a hot, humid climate ensures that those who live here year-round are the kind of people who truly want to make this their home. I'm excited to get to know the locals and to become one of them.
People say that this is one of the best places for fishing in Florida. I aim to find out if that's true. I do know that it's a great place to kayak and explore, and that's something I look forward to.
